Why Sometimes You Must Beware of Cheap Or Flat Fee Computer Repair Services

Sometimes a computer repair service is offered for a flat fee or at least cheaply. This is definitely appetizing for the computer owner who experiences a virus invasion or a hard disk crash. Regardless of its attractiveness, one must always beware of cheap or flat fee computer repair services.

One may ask what should be so bad about such a deal? Is it not great that such a deal is offered and so therefore must be availed of? There are good and bad sides to every deal, and it pays to be vigilant so as not to be scammed.

Usually these deals are given by new entrants into the repair market to make a quick buck and try to capture market share. In this manner the law of supply and demand goes to work. A lower price will ensure a bigger supply of takers. And more often than not this works. Before jumping on the bandwagon though do take note of a few things to protect yourself from a possible scam.

Look at the advertisement and see if the address of the service provider is included. An ad without an address will look suspicious, for what kind of business will only list a phone number without an address? If the ad seems to appear to be made by a freelancer technician, be warier still as freelancers never give a money back guarantee.

Ask around your area regarding the service offered and see if anyone has further information. You can ask neighbours or workmates regarding the ad you saw. Additionally you can ask these same people if they themselves can point you in the direction of a more reliable and trusted service.

If the location of the service provider is known then it is a good idea to visit it. A first hand observation of the place can do a lot in your deciding to avail of the service or not. This will also give you a chance to talk to other customers who may also be at the site. However, if you do notice no customers lining up then maybe you should avoid it also.

Importantly of all things in scoping out a flat fee service provider, do talk to the provider. Ask as many questions as possible to gauge credibility and trustworthiness. Ask most especially why such a service is being offered at such a low price. In this way you give the provider a chance to convince you whether or not to be a client or not.

And finally as an important consideration, do not think that all flat fee services regarding computer repairs are to be totally avoided. Some of these services are quite genuine, especially if established players may give a promo of their services to celebrate an anniversary or the like. Thus there is a chance that you may find a gem of deal that gives what it purports to provide. But definitely the only way to protect yourself is to be informed, to be vigilant, and to follow the steps above.
